Notifications, and turning down the ones you do not want
The three ways EcoSync can reach you, what sets a notification off, and how to cut the volume without missing the things that actually need you.
What you will learn
- The three channels, and which one is off by default
- What actually triggers a notification
- How to quieten a busy community without leaving it
- Which two are worth keeping on whatever else you turn off
Three ways to be reached#
| Channel | Default | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| In-app | On | Everything. This is the bell, and it is where the full history lives. |
| On | Things you would want to see even if you had not logged in for a week. | |
| Push | Off | Time-sensitive things only - a message, an event starting. |
Good to know
There is no SMS. Nothing here will ever text you, which is worth knowing if you are deciding whether to add your number - that field is for account recovery and two-factor sign-in, not alerts.
What sets one off#
- Somebody likes, comments on, shares, or mentions you in a post
- A connection request, an acceptance, or a new follower
- A message, or activity in a group conversation
- A job application changing status, or a saved alert matching something new
- An event you registered for - confirmation, the reminders, any change
- Activity in a community you have joined, and moderation actions if you run one
- Mentorship: a booking, a cancellation, a session about to start
Turning the volume down#
The usual problem is not too many kinds of notification. It is one busy community or one very active thread. Fix that before switching whole categories off.
- Set notification preferences per community, so a noisy one goes quiet without you leaving it
- Turn a whole category off in Settings, then Notifications, if it is never useful to you
- Turn a channel off entirely - email is the one people usually switch off once they are in the product daily
The two worth keeping on
Job application status changes, and event reminders. Both are time-bound and both are things people genuinely miss. Everything else can wait until the next time you open the bell.
