Announcements and Notifications
Two separate inboxes that are easy to confuse. Notifications are things that happened to you. Announcements are things an incubator wants you to know.
What you will learn
- The difference between the two, and why they are separate
- Which events actually generate a notification
- What to check when you think you have missed something
Two different inboxes#
| Notifications | Announcements | |
|---|---|---|
| Comes from | The platform, about you | An incubator you are associated with |
| Typical content | A new booking, a cancellation, a payout update | Cohort dates, demo day, program logistics |
| Needs action | Often | Rarely |
| Where | Overview → Notifications | Network → Announcements |
What generates a notification#
- A mentee books a session with you
- A session is cancelled or rescheduled by either side
- An incubator or investor invites you to an association
- A withdrawal changes state - approved, processing, completed
- A mentee leaves a review
The booking notification is the one that matters
A booking request left sitting is a mentee waiting. If you only watch one thing here, watch that - everything else can be caught up on later.
Announcements#
Announcements arrive from incubators you have an active association with. They are broadcast rather than addressed to you, and they stop when the association ends.
Good to know
An empty Announcements page is normal for a mentor working directly with founders. It fills up only once an incubator association exists.
When you think you missed something#
- 1
Check Bookings, not Notifications
Bookings is the source of truth for sessions. A notification is a prompt about a booking, not the booking itself.
- 2
Check the payment badge
An unpaid booking never enters your pending queue, so it can look like a request that never arrived.
- 3
Check your verification state
A suspended profile stops receiving new bookings entirely, which reads as silence rather than as an error.
Notification preferences are in your account settings, shared across every role you hold rather than specific to mentoring.
Check whether the association is genuinely ended rather than merely inactive. Ending it stops the broadcasts.
