Your Profile: How Founders and Incubators See You
The profile is not decoration. Incubators match startups against these fields when deciding whether to grant you access, and founders match against them before pitching. It is the highest-leverage screen in the portal.
What you will learn
- What each field is actually used for
- Why an empty profile costs you deal flow
- What you can and cannot change here
- What verification does and does not affect
Why this matters more than it looks#
Everything upstream of your pipeline keys off these fields. Incubators read them when you ask for deal room access. Founders read them before pitching. An empty profile does not produce fewer matches - it produces worse ones.
Important
If your inbound is irrelevant, the fix is here rather than in Applications. Vague criteria read to a founder as 'anything considered'.
The fields#
| Field | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Investment thesis | The prose a founder or incubator reads first. Say what you back and why. |
| Sectors | Matched against a startup's sector. The strongest single filter. |
| Stages | Pre-seed, seed, Series A and so on. |
| Geographies | Where you invest. |
| Cheque size | Your range. Founders use it to decide whether you are worth approaching. |
| Company revenue / round size | Further filters on what fits you. |
| AUM | What you manage. Context for the incubator. |
| Currency | The unit every amount above is expressed in. |
Tip
Ranges beat single numbers, and honest ranges beat flattering ones. A cheque size you will not actually write wastes everybody's time, starting with yours.
What you cannot change here#
Two things are fixed at registration because everything else is built on them.
- Investor kind - individual or organisation. An individual cannot become an organisation in place; create a separate organisation instead.
- Investor type - Angel, VC, Broker and so on. An administrator can change it from this page, with a reason, and it resets your verification.
Careful
Changing investor type is a commercial reclassification, not a preference. It changes your seats, your monthly deal allowance and which features exist for you - check the investor types page first.
Verification#
A verified badge means the platform has reviewed your investor profile. It affects how others treat you, not what you can do.
- Unverified investors can build a pipeline, create deals and manage a portfolio normally.
- Some incubators only grant deal room access to verified investors.
- Changing your investor type resets verification and returns you to the review queue.
Good to know
The dashboard says as much when you are unverified: you can set up your pipeline now, but some incubators will want the badge before granting access.
Keeping it current#
Revisit when your thesis moves
A fund that has quietly moved from seed to Series A but still says seed will keep getting seed.
Revisit when your cheque size changes
New fund, new range. This is the field founders self-select on most.
Revisit after a bad quarter of inbound
Consistently irrelevant pitches are a profile symptom.
Common questions#
Yes. Profile and Billing stay open deliberately, so founders can still find you and you can keep your details right while unsubscribed.
Members whose role allows it. Changing the investor type specifically requires an administrator.
The organisation or individual page is how founders and incubators find you. Your pipeline, portfolio and notes are not public.
It is reviewed by the platform. Carry on working while you wait - nothing is blocked by it.
