Session Types and Pricing
A session type is a thing a mentee can buy: a name, a length and a price. Without at least one, your profile can be perfect and still be unbookable.
What you will learn
- What a session type is made of
- Why a discovery call is worth offering
- The difference between deactivating and deleting
- How pricing interacts with incubator and investor associations
The shape of a session type#
Each one is deliberately simple. A name a founder will understand, a duration between 15 and 180 minutes, and a price. That is what appears on the booking screen.
| Field | Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Up to 100 characters | What the mentee picks from a list - make it self-explanatory |
| Description | Up to 500 characters | One or two lines on what they get |
| Duration | 15 to 180 minutes | Drives how slots are carved out of your availability |
| Price | Any non-negative amount | Set 0 for a genuinely free call |
| Discovery call | Flag | Marks this as your no-commitment first conversation |
A sensible starting set#
Most mentors converge on three, and there is a reason the shape recurs.
A short intro call
Cheap or free, 30 minutes. It exists to work out whether you are useful to this person at all, and it removes the risk that stops people booking a stranger.
A standard working session
60 minutes at your real rate. One problem, taken apart properly. This is the one you will sell most of.
A long-form review
90 minutes, priced accordingly. Deck reviews, fundraise prep, anything that needs reading beforehand.
Price the intro call deliberately
Free maximises volume and attracts people who are not serious. A small fee filters hard and costs you very few real enquiries. Either is defensible - drifting into it by accident is not.
Creating and changing them#
- 1
Open Session Types
Under Mentoring in the sidebar.
- 2
New session type
Fill in name, duration and price. The description is optional but it is what a hesitant mentee reads.
- 3
Edit whenever you like
Changing the price affects future bookings only. A session already booked keeps the price it was booked at.
- 4
Deactivate rather than delete
Deactivating hides it from new bookings while leaving your history and any booked sessions intact.
Deactivating everything makes you unbookable
You stay listed in the marketplace, but a mentee who opens your profile finds nothing to buy. If you are stepping away, clear your availability instead - it reads as ‘no slots right now’ rather than ‘nothing on offer’.
How this interacts with associations#
Your listed prices govern sessions booked directly by individuals. When an incubator or an investor engages you, the rate is agreed in that association instead - it can be a different agreed rate, a retainer, or free at the point of use with the institution paying.
- Direct bookings - your session type price applies
- Incubator or investor associations - the agreed terms in that association apply
- Packages - the package price applies, not the sum of the session types
Yes. Nothing stops two 60-minute types at different prices, and it is a reasonable way to separate a straightforward working session from something that needs preparation. Make the names carry the difference.
Prices carry a currency, defaulting to INR. Set it when you create the type.
Yes. Slots are carved out of your availability by the duration of the session type being booked, so a 90-minute type needs a 90-minute clear run.
