Investor Portal

Team and Roles

Inviting colleagues, deciding what each of them may do, and living within the seat cap your investor type gives you. Organisations only - an individual investor has no team.

What you will learn

  • Inviting a colleague and what they have to do to join
  • The eight ready-made roles
  • How seats work and what happens at the cap
  • Reading the permissions matrix
  • Removing somebody, and what that does

Who this applies to#

Only organisations. If you registered as an individual investor there is no Team screen at all, and that is correct - there is nobody to invite.

Seats used against your cap, then one row per member with their role.

Inviting a colleague#

  1. 1

    Invite member

You need their email and a role. The role can be changed later, so pick the most restrictive one that lets them work.

  2. 2

They accept from their Invitations page

The invitation appears on their account showing your organisation and the role they are joining as. Until they accept, the row sits as Pending.

    • A pending invitation still occupies a seat.
    • Accepting adds the investor role to their account automatically - they do not need to register as an investor first.
  3. 3

    Check they landed

Once accepted they show as Active and can open the portal scoped to your organisation.

Good to know

Your colleague may already use the platform as a founder, mentor or professional. Joining your fund adds an investor identity alongside those - it does not disturb the roles they already have.

The eight roles#

Every organisation is created with these. They are a sensible starting point rather than a rule - you can adjust what each one grants.

RoleIntended for
Managing PartnerRuns the firm. Full access, including disbursements, billing and mentors.
Investment PartnerLeads deals through the pipeline.
PrincipalSenior deal execution.
AssociateDay-to-day deal work.
AnalystResearch and diligence support. Read-heavy.
Finance ManagerMoney: disbursements and billing.
Legal ManagerTerm sheets and documents.
ObserverCan look, cannot change.

Tip

Analyst is the useful default for somebody new. It grants reading across deals, diligence and portfolio without letting them change valuations or move money.

Permissions#

Each role grants a set of modules, and within each module a set of actions - create, read, update, delete. Reading and writing are genuinely separate: a role can see the portfolio and still be refused when it tries to post a valuation.

Modules down the side, actions across. Change a role and it applies to everyone holding it.

Careful

Editing a role changes it for every member who holds it, immediately. If you want a one-off exception, make a new role rather than loosening a shared one.

Good to know

Mentors is not granted by most roles. Managing Partner has it; if somebody else needs to engage mentors, grant it deliberately - mentor engagements commit money.

Seats#

Your investor type sets the ceiling, not your plan. An Angel gets one seat, which is another way of saying an Angel has no team.

  • The Team page shows seats used against your cap.
  • Pending invitations count against it.
  • At the cap, the invite control is disabled and says so.
  • Removing somebody frees their seat immediately.

Important

If you need more seats, that is an investor type question rather than a billing one - see the investor types page. Upgrading your plan will not add seats.

Removing somebody#

  1. 1

Remove them from the Team page

Access ends straight away. Next time they open the portal for your organisation they will not have one.

  2. 2

    Their work stays

Notes, documents, deals and stage history they created remain against the deal. Removing a person does not remove their contribution.

Careful

Removal is immediate and cannot be undone from this screen - re-invite them if it was a mistake. Check you are removing the right row before you confirm.

Common questions#

Check the invitation is Accepted rather than Pending, and then check their role actually grants the module they are looking for.

No. The subscription belongs to the organisation and covers everyone in it.

Yes. They switch between them from the header, and their role can differ in each.

By design - the person who creates a disbursement cannot approve it. That needs a second person, whatever their role.

Yes, from the Roles page. Start from the closest existing role rather than from nothing.
